Mazda Flair 2015 Review

The Mazda Flair is a compact car, a rebadged version of the Suzuki Wagon R, designed primarily for the city driver. It’s part of a microvan/kei car genre popular in Asia. With the first generation debuting around 2012, the 2015 Mazda Flair represents an evolution within this initial generation, customized with Mazda’s unique branding and details.

Exterior Design

The Flair’s exterior design is characterized by its boxy, yet functional shape, aimed at maximizing interior space. The ground clearance is typically low, around 160mm, which is common for kei cars, making it suitable for well-paved urban roads but possibly challenging on rough, rural terrains.

Interior Design

Inside, the Mazda Flair offers a surprisingly spacious cabin for its size, a trait common among Japanese microvans. The boot space, while not extensive due to the car’s compact dimensions, is decent for daily errands, measuring around 160 liters. However, the rear seats can be folded down to accommodate larger items, which adds to its versatility.

Performance

The Flair’s engine is designed for efficiency and urban commuting rather than power. Equipped with a 660cc engine, it provides enough thrust for city driving but might feel underpowered on highways or hilly terrains. Its fuel efficiency is a significant advantage, especially considering the fuel price sensitivity in Sri Lanka.

Ride Quality

Ride quality is satisfactory for city use, with the car handling urban bumps and potholes decently. However, due to its lightweight and small size, passengers might feel road imperfections more prominently at higher speeds or on less maintained roads.

Safety & Technology

Basic safety features in the Flair include dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and brake assist. Technology-wise, it’s equipped with standard features like a simple infotainment system and air conditioning, focusing on practicality over luxury.
