Audi Q2 2018 Review
What's on the page
Looking for a luxury subcompact SUV? Then the Audi Q2 might just be the best option for you. The Audi Q2 is a youthful all-rounder on both paved and bumpy roads. Is the Audi Q2 worth the hype? You’re about to find out! In this review, we take a deep dive into the features, specs, pros and cons of the Audi Q2 2018 model.
Exterior Design:
At first glance, the attractive badge and significant boxy style of the Audi Q2 sets it apart from other contenders in its class such as the BMW X2 and the Mercedes GLA. The Ground clearance of Audi Q2 stands at 144mm, which is slightly lower than the ideal amount for a compact SUV.
Interior Design:
Inside the Audi Q2 2018, you will witness a great mix of practicality and cutting-edge technology. The highlight of the front interior is the signature Audi dashboard which comes with a host of sophisticated looking buttons, switches and fittings, coupled with an impressively intuitive infotainment system.
The rotary controls manage the heating and ventilation and this makes it easier to adjust the temperature or fan speed of the air conditioning without taking your eyes off the road. However, some people find this system to be less user-friendly compared to that of the BMW X2. If you happen to be one of these people, you always have the option of spending a little extra money and upgrading to a fabulous digital display with standard dials.
Audi has fitted every Q2 from the Sport trim upwards with its futuristic Virtual Cockpit dash. Here, you can choose what kind of information you see in the dash screen and how it’s displayed. The best thing is, you can have a large navigation map on the screen, so all you need is a quick glance to know where you’re headed. The Audi Q2 2018 is fitted with a state-of-the-art 8.3-inch colour screen, which comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which enables access to smartphone apps.
The Audi Q2 brings you the comfort of the Audi A3, but with an added element of safety and a higher driving position and vantage point. The front seats are well-supported, comfortable and equipped with plenty of adjustment settings.
The rear seats, on the other hand, are not the most comfortable. Their upright design of the back seat makes it difficult for tall passengers to enjoy longer journeys. There isn’t quite enough space for three adults to sit alongside each other either. Although the Audi Q2 isn’t the largest compact SUV by any means, it’s cargo compartment has plenty of space.
Performance:
The Audi Q2 features an inline 4-cylinder petrol engine providing outstanding performance without compromising on efficiency. The top speed of Audi Q2 is a whopping 228 kmph.
The Audi Q2’s light steering helps you to navigate through narrow spaces. Moreover, you can driver over potholes at ease, thanks to the Audi Q2’s fairly decent suspension.
An Audi Q2 with a diesel engine is recommended for sprawling country roads and rugged terrain, whereas a petrol engine option is more suited for city driving. The standard manual gearbox of this vehicle can be handled with absolute ease, however, if you spend long hours in traffic, it’s always a good idea to stick with the automatic option.
In town:
The Audi Q2 exhibits suspension that’s firmer than many other cars in this class, such as the Ford, Puma or Peugeot 2008. Thus, you’ll notice a lot more of the small lumps and bumps on town and city streets, or as you drive on rural roads with lower speed limits. While the Q2 isn’t at all uncomfortable at lower speeds for the driver and front passenger, the passengers on the rear seats will definitely feel some of the impact of a bumpy road. On the other hand, the interior is more soundproof than most of the other compact SUVs in its class, while the raised driving position offers excellent visibility at the front and sides. Reversing is trouble-free, thanks to the parking sensors are fitted to every Audi Q2 by default. Around town, performance from the 1.0-litre petrol engine in the 30 TFSI model is perfectly adequate. It has 110bhp and feels quick off the mark. The six-speed manual gearbox is light and easy to use. This is the only engine and gearbox combination available on the Technik trim.
On the motorway:
On the motorway the Audi Q2 feels like a bigger SUV, as it is stable and remains undisturbed by gusts of wind. The steering adds the sense of a solid, weighty car. At higher speeds the ride becomes smoother and makes the Audi Q2 a very effective car on our local roads. If you choose the optional adaptive suspension, the ride is even more indulging.
On crooked country roads:
This vehicle can be driven even on winding roads with immense stability since its steering wheel allows quick reaction due to its design.
Ride Quality:
The 2018 Audi Q2 is one of the best crossovers to drive. This model comes with a steering wheel that is swift and direct. As a result, driving feels stable and secure. The steering wheel is based on the S3 hot hatch. Hence, a fun filled drive!
In summary, the Audi Q2 2018 vehicle type provides a comfortable, luxury ride with a sporty sensation.
Safety & Technology:
When it comes to safety and technology, the Audi Q2 is quite comprehensive and leaves nothing out. There are six airbags in every model, along with ISOFIX mounting points on the two outer rear seats and the front passenger seat. The Audi Q2 2018 also comes with autonomous emergency braking, cruise control with speed limiter and reverse parking sensors for every version.
