Toyota Starlet 1999 Review
What's on the page
Toyota Motor Company was established in 1937, and is one of the world’s major automakers, producing over 10 million automobiles every year. So, today we will discuss one car out of the millions made by Toyota. Let’s check out the Toyota Starlet. The Starlet went into production in 1978 and we got to see this for six generations. Among these is the Toyota Starlet 1999 from the 6th generation, which CarsGuide is examining today.
Exterior Design
Let’s start with how the Toyota Starlet’s exterior is created.
Fog lights, a windshield wiper, and two windshield washers have also been installed in the front. Front disc brakes are used. When it comes to suspension, the front has a MacPherson Strut suspension.
There are only two doors visible from the side. The vehicle’s length is 3740 mm. Traditional side mirrors are included which are visible due to the body color. Only the rear passenger side has heated windows.
On the back, a windshield wiper and a little tailgate are included. Halogen lights are also visible. Drum brakes are used in the rear. In terms of suspension, the rear has a semi-dependent suspension. At first glance, it appears charming.
The Toyota Starlet is a hatchback body style. Vehicles in the hatchback sector should have a ground clearance of 168 mm on average. The Toyota Starlet, on the other hand, has a ground clearance of 135 mm.
When it comes to the boot, this car has a capacity of 314 liters. So, considering the size of the car, the available boot room is adequate.
Interior Design
Let us now discuss the interior design of the Toyota Starlet.
In the driver’s seat, we see fabric seats. The driver cabin provides plenty of headroom. There is generally good legroom, but because the seats are situated very close to the ground, a tall person may feel a little uneasy.
The Starlet comes with a standard-sized glove box, analog speedometer, a tachometer, and a fuel gauge. The climate control on this car is operated manually. A manual anti-glare rearview mirror is also included. A black steering wheel with tilt settings is shown.
Three fabric seats can be found in the passenger compartment. Because there are no doors in the back, you must fold the front seats forward to enter the passenger compartment. The middle seat lacks an armrest. The headroom will not suffice for a tall person. Legroom is also adequate for an average-sized person.
Performance
The Toyota Starlet is powered by a 1453 cc engine. This engine produces 74 horsepower. The torque is 115 Newton-meters. When the torque gained in this manner grows, the engine’s RPM and power output decrease.
The 1453 cc engine is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. This car is also equipped with front wheel drive.
The Starlet can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 11.2 seconds. A top speed of 170 km/h is also specified. Its fuel usage is 6.8 liters per 100 kilometers. So, because the Starlet’s fuel tank capacity is 45 gallons, you may drive 662 kilometers on this capacity.
Ride Quality
We want a vehicle’s exterior and interior to present a high-quality feel, and the ride to be comfortable. So, let’s see what kind of ride the Toyota Starlet provides.
We can drive this vehicle on average bumpy roads with ease. This, however, is not an off-road vehicle. Body roll is low due to the vehicle’s low ground clearance. So, with these features, the Toyota Starlet provides us with a ride that is worth the price we spent.
Safety & Technology
Next, let’s speak about how the Toyota Starlet was designed with safety in mind. There are two airbags for the driver and front passenger.
Aside from airbags, the Toyota Starlet’s safety has been assured by the addition of additional safety systems. ABS, EBD, Brake aid, Stability control, and an anti-theft alarm are among the safety features. Aside from these, the Starlet has an engine immobilizer as a safety measure.
The Starlet received a 4-star safety rating as a result of this feature.
