Hyundai Tucson 2004 Review

The Hyundai Tucson, introduced in 2004, marked Hyundai’s foray into the compact SUV segment. As of 2004, the Tucson was in its first generation, which lasted until 2009. This model was designed to offer versatility, practicality, and affordability in a growing SUV market. As of my last update in April 2023, the Tucson has progressed through several generations, each enhancing its features, performance, and appeal.

Exterior Design

The 2004 Tucson featured a compact yet robust design typical of early 2000s SUVs. It presented a balanced mix of an urban-friendly size with an adventurous spirit. The ground clearance was approximately 183mm (7.2 inches), suitable for handling a variety of road conditions, a significant consideration in Sri Lanka, where terrains can vary greatly.

Interior Design

Inside, the Tucson offered a functional and straightforward interior. The cabin was designed to maximize space and comfort for a vehicle of its size. The boot space was reasonable, providing about 644 liters with the rear seats up and significantly more with the seats folded down, catering well to family needs and utility.

Performance

The 2004 Tucson typically came equipped with either a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a more powerful 2.7-liter V6. These options provided a decent balance between power and fuel efficiency, which is particularly relevant in Sri Lanka, where fuel economy is a major consideration.

Ride Quality

The Tucson’s ride quality was adequate, with suspension tuned to balance comfort and handling. While it wasn’t as refined as some of its competitors, it offered a decent driving experience, both in urban settings and on rougher terrains.

Safety & Technology

Safety features in the 2004 Tucson included standard equipment like airbags and ABS. Technology-wise, it was equipped with basic features like an AM/FM radio and a CD player, with higher trims offering more advanced options.
