The 70’s legend Ford Capri is back with an all new electric hum

The Seventies icon is back on the streets of Europe adding to Ford’s ongoing list of electric vehicles. The European equivalent of an all American Mustang makes fresh tread marks as Ford crosses over with Volkswagen to bring you the all new Capri.

The all new electric Capri comes in two trims as the standard select and the higher end premium both boasting relatively up to standard stats with the competitors on offer. Ford has been subpar in the electric market for a while their competitors had gotten a couple of yardsticks ahead. This partnership with Volkswagen found them on the fine end of the catapult keeping them with the rest of their competitors breaking into the EV market.

The standard Capri is powered by a 282 horsepower rear wheel single motor that has a “reported” range of 390 miles, all of this electric wizardry powered by a 77 kWh battery capable of reaching from 10 to 80 percent in a matter of 28 minutes.

The premium trim is powered by a dual motor all wheel drive producing a calm 335 ponies. The capacity makes the slightest of an increment with a 79 kWh battery charged at 185 kW which is a significant increase but surprisingly only bringing down the charging speed to 26 minutes.

The standard model is subpar for those willing to time it across a 0-60 mph with 6.4 seconds while the dual motor trim takes it up a necessary notch at 5.3 seconds

Ford is unsurprisingly pushing for the consumers to shortlist the premium trim with its amenities over the standard which includes a B & O sound system coupled with ambient lighting and bigger 20 inch wheels over the standard 19 inches for those who find them to be their style but it becomes all the more confusing as marketing tactic when both models are available in 21 inch options.

The Sri Lankan petrol heads will leave this on their bucket list as always although it’s not the greatest fit for the market even if it was made to be available. For those visiting Europe and trying to make a small talk on the Capri will find it listed in the range of USD 61,731-66,995 which is not the greatest pitch from the Ford sales team.
